A gentle guide for parents curious about this natural form of support

Not long ago, a mum brought her 6-year-old son into my clinic. He had a long history of eczema and anxiety, and while she had tried many things — creams, diet changes, even herbs — nothing seemed to bring lasting change.

“I just want to help him,” she said. “But I don’t want to keep suppressing his symptoms. Is there something deeper we can do?”

That’s when I gently introduced the idea of homeopathy.

This is often how the conversation begins — a quiet curiosity from parents who are doing everything and still feel something’s missing. Homeopathy is one of the most beautiful tools I use in my clinic to support children’s health — physically, emotionally, and energetically.

But what is it, really?

Let’s explore it together.

So, What Is Homeopathy?

Homeopathy is a gentle, natural system of healing that works with the body — not against it. Rather than suppressing symptoms, it helps to stimulate your child’s vital force — the inner healing intelligence that keeps everything in balance.

It’s based on a principle called “like cures like”, where a substance that causes symptoms in a healthy person can, in tiny doses, help bring healing in someone experiencing those same symptoms.

Let’s look at a few real-world examples:

If your child was stung by a bee…

  • Conventional medicine might offer an antihistamine or corticosteroid to reduce the swelling, redness, and itch.

  • Homeopathy might use Apis mellifica — a remedy made from the sting of the honeybee, prepared in a highly diluted and safe form. It’s used when the skin is hot, red, puffy, and stinging — the same sensation a bee sting causes.

If someone is bitten by a venomous snake…

  • Conventional medicine would use an antivenom — made from a small, specially prepared dose of the snake’s own venom to help the body neutralise and recover. This is, in many ways, the same principle behind homeopathy: using a highly diluted form of the same substance to stimulate the body’s healing response.

  • Homeopathy works similarly. Remedies like Lachesis or Crotalus (made from snake venom, in an ultra-diluted and completely safe form) are used when a person’s symptoms reflect that energetic picture — intense heat, agitation, tension, or circulatory imbalances.

Instead of fighting or masking symptoms, homeopathy works by prompting the body’s memory — encouraging it to restore balance from within.

It may sound unusual at first, but when the right remedy is chosen, the results can be gentle, lasting, and deeply supportive.

A Little More About How It Works

Homeopathic remedies are made from natural substances — plants, minerals, or animal-derived materials — prepared through a special process that involves repeated dilution and shaking. This method removes any toxicity while enhancing the energetic properties of the original substance.

The result is a remedy that carries the essence or energetic imprint of the original material. When matched to a child’s emotional and physical pattern, this remedy acts as a healing signal — gently reminding the body how to come back into balance.

The word homeopathy comes from the Greek:
homoios (similar) + pathos (suffering), meaning similar suffering.

Homeopathy was first developed by Dr Samuel Hahnemann in the late 1700s, who believed that symptoms were not enemies to silence, but signals of imbalance. He recorded his philosophies and clinical methods in a book called The Organon, still studied today by homeopaths around the world.

Is It Safe for Children?

Yes — homeopathy is one of the safest natural therapies available, even for babies and toddlers.

The remedies are:

  • Non-toxic and non-addictive

  • Free from preservatives, colours, or flavours

  • Suitable alongside conventional medicine

  • Easy to administer (tiny tablets or drops)

There’s no risk of chemical overdose, and the remedies are chosen with care and respect for your child’s whole picture.

Why Use Homeopathy for Children?

Children are wonderfully responsive to homeopathy. Their systems are still forming, their patterns are clear, and they haven’t yet developed as many layers of suppression or complexity as adults.

In my clinic, I use homeopathy to support:

  • Eczema, rashes, and skin issues

  • Digestive concerns

  • Sleep struggles

  • Anxiety, fears, tantrums

  • Sensory sensitivities

  • Hormonal imbalances

  • Recurrent infections

  • Behaviour changes after illness or emotional upheaval

The goal isn’t to fix or control — it’s to support your child’s body to heal from within.

A Few Common Remedies I Use in Children

Remedies are always selected based on the whole child, not just the condition. That said, here are a few you might hear me mention:

  • Pulsatilla – for clingy, gentle children who cry easily and need reassurance. Useful for colds, upset tummies, or mood shifts that change often.

  • Sulphur – for curious, active kids with itchy skin, vivid dreams, and lots of heat in the body.

  • Calc carb – for cautious children who tire easily, dislike change, and may have delays in development.

  • Arsenicum – for anxious kids who want order and security, especially when unwell.

  • Lycopodium – for children who appear bossy but feel insecure underneath, often affected by change or pressure.

A Little Story from Clinic

A five-year-old boy came to see me with digestive issues, frequent waking at night, and a fear of sleeping alone. His mum described him as bright and sensitive — “He picks up on everything, and then it stays in his body.”

After taking his case, I gave him a remedy called Phosphorus — one often suited to affectionate, energetic, easily overstimulated children.

Over the next few weeks, his digestion settled, and his sleep improved. “It’s like he can breathe again,” his mum said. “He’s still himself — just calmer, more balanced.”

🌿 Is Homeopathy Just for Kids?

Not at all — I use homeopathy to support adults too, including mums navigating hormonal shifts, emotional exhaustion, or postnatal depletion.

Many parents come to me after seeing how beautifully it supports their children and want to experience that same depth of care for themselves.

When the whole family is supported, everyone feels more connected — and resilient.
